Samsung ST1000

Samsung has showcased the 12.2-megapixel Samsung ST1000 camera with built in geo-tagging, Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi connectivity. Offering purchasers an 'always on' experience, users can now send and post footage about as fast as they take them, while the GPS capacities will maintain a tally of precisely where each picture was shot. Using Bluetooth 2.0 technology, every use can upload their favorite images to other compatible cell phone devices using the wireless facility. With the Wi-Fi technology, users can e-mail stills direct from their camera and upload their photographs or videos to selected popular social networking sites including Facebook, Picasa, YouTube, with no need to connect to a PC.
Smart Touch AF is on board to let you immediately change the position of the active AF point. Supplied with a 5x zoom lens and available in silver/red, black /black, red/black, black/gold and blue/gray colors, the Samsung ST1000 permits users to capture 12-megapixel stills and 720p high definition video clips. The Samsung ST1000 is made out of strong plastic with a glossy finish on the front and matt on the back, leading to quite a stylish and slim compact camera. The 5x optical lens reaches to supply a 35-175mm focal length, flexible enough for anything from tolerably wide landscapes to candid head and shoulder portraits, though there are more similarly-sized models that provide a larger zoom and wider-angle focal length. A non-extending folded-optics lens is used by the ST1000, hidden away in the top-right corner of the front of the camera and guarded by a plastic cover while not in use. On the left of the lens is a small porthole-style window for the AF self timer lamp and the in-built flash bulb. There is no hand-grip at all on the glossy front of the ST1000 or on the rear, which makes the camera harder to hold steady when shooting hand held at the extremities of the zoom. Looking down on the ST1000's top plate we find seven controls.
Beginning at the left when seen from the rear, there is this very distinguished GPS module, a Power button that's a touch too tiny and recessed for simple operation, a tactile shutter button, and a plastic made but reactive rocker switch for operating the zoom. Handled by a protruding lip that falls naturally under the forefinger, the zoom takes around three seconds to go from maximum wide angle to full telephoto and that its transitions are sound-tracked by a low mechanical blur - but it is low enough to prevent being off-putting. A tiny activity LED for the built-in Wi-Fi, slots for the microphone and the self-explanatory play button complete the head of the ST1000.
